Help? Pwease?

Postby TrystofFate » Sat Apr 25, 2009 9:38 pm

so i've never LARPed before and i'm not really sure what i'm doing. But i want to play a healer (scholar) so i think i have the outfit and the following are the skills i've picked out for first level. If someone has some free time to look over and critique it it would be great.

E.M. Level 1 1
E.M. Level 1 1
First Aid 2
Healing Arts 2
Read and Write 3
Read Magic 4
C.M. Level 1 2
Total 15

So if i'm correct this would give me 2 EM spells / day and 1 CM spell a day right?

and i'm not sure about spells exactly, I mean do i start with a spell or am i a blank slate till i learn spells from someone else?

also if i go to an event as a PC can i take some time to play a NPC or monster just to help get a feel for things?

Oh and if anyone has any suggestions for a complete n00b it would be much appreciated!

First of all, we are glad to hear that you are interested in coming to a NERO event.

As far as building your character, I assume you were going by the online rulebook. There have been quite a few changes since then.

New characters now start with 30 build points instead of 15.

It appears that you did spend your build correctly, though I personally don't recommend that a starting character have both Earth and Celestial Magic. They are two different schools of magic. Earth Magic (Healing) would be your primary school and Celestial Magic your secondary. Because the Secondary School costs twice as much build to learn, most mages wait until much later to learn a second school of magic.

If you wanted to play an Earth Scholar you would start by purchasing:

Small Weapons
Read and Write
First Aid
Healing Arts
Earth Magic 1 (4)
Earth Magic 2 (4)
Earth Magic 3 (3)
Earth Magic 4 (2)
Earth Magic 5 (1)

For a total of 29 build.

You would not need to take Read Magic, because it is not needed unless you want to learn Celestial Magic. However, it can also be used to read scrolls. You are allowed to re-write your character up to 5th level, so you can change your skills, class, or even race. Therefore, you can come and learn a little about the game and change what you don't like.

As far as spells, you will start the game knowing everything that you have on your character sheet. Using my example character, You would know all spells from 1st to 5th level. You could cast as many spells as you have spell slots. So you could cast any combination of 4 first level spells:

You could cast 4 Cure light wounds spells OR 4 Light Spells OR 3 Cure Light Wounds Spells and 1 Light Spell, etc, etc. At 6 am and 6 pm, you can rememorize you spells, so any spell slots you used would be refreshed.

And YES, we love having extra NPCs. You can always volunteer to NPC for us. We need warm bodies and It is a great way for you to learn the rules and also to try different weapon fighting styles, magic, alchemy, etc.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please ask and we will be glad to help you out.

Hope to see you at the next event
